After building and constructing a spraypaint wall ready for the pupils to work on,
The workshop kicked off with an with an 'inspirational' talk about the history and culture of graffiti art and my journey growing up as an artist, concluding in examples of my art works from around the world projected up on a wall using a projector.
Teaching the kids some hands on basics - imagery, calligraphy and can control ect.
Plenty of paper and lining paper and drawing equipment was provided for this section of the workshop.
With also be a 'show' wall for everyone to make their mark upon and put into Pratice what they learnt after various spray paint demonstrations.
Everyone had have a blank baseball cap to customise and design.
After then demonstrating various spraypaint techniques of customising their baseball cap, I then left them, and the facilitating support workers to get on with working on their baseball caps, whilst I went outside and sketched out their design using chalk.
After a break, the kids essentially used a ‘paint by numbers’ approach to then collaboratively spray paint their large mural wall.
The workshops then concluded with a Q&A and then a graffiti signing of their names on their baseball cap
Health and safety
thorough health and safety briefing was conducted before begging the practical stuff.
children wearing masks, spray only under supervision, and ensure there is a dust sheet down where necessary ect. In particular absolutely no spraying anywhere other than on paper/temporary walls etc. Also all the spray paints used in the workshop were nontoxic and waterbased.
"Morgan Davy, full time, self-taught, outsider artist born in the UK.
Spray painting the streets since 2001.
Working with clients, teaching, running art workshops and putting on shows since 2004.
Art residencies include Lebanon, Paris, Malta, Bulgaria, Greece and Africa.
With a strong focus in street art and comissioned mural painting under the name of MORGASMIK,
This artist comes equipped with a very impressive portfolio with maases of mural works dating back to 2001.
Art critic Nick Razzo once described one of Morgan’s pieces
"Like a sort of hypnagogic supernova all mixed up with Francis Bacon
and the brain scans of someone enjoying an orgasm. At one point it
seems like a sea of rare chemicals on a distant planet, at another it
resembles a monstrous bird. The attention to detail is awesome,
ensuring that if you are examining it from three inches away or 10 feet,
you get a mighty jolt of aesthetic pleasure. If this nature of art was a
genre of music, it could be found under a ’psychedelic surf-funk’ section!”
Almost as if an act of social, or self-therapy, each piece he paints in public, is like an an expressive
statement, or a peaceful protest in restoring the value of human potential & faith in Artistic freedom.
His intentions are to become a unique & personal experience to the viewer, stimulating new thought
patterns & imagination, inviting them to look within and awaken an inner depth of dormant senses,
breaking down possible conditioning and preconceived notions the viewer may have along the way,
whilst connecting with them through a mutual resonance in the universal language of Art & inspiration.
This is important to Morgan, as he witnesses and is sensitive to the dull lack of honest creativity
+ colour use in societies day-to-day capital, and with this motive, attempts to restore imbalances by
decorating urban grey matter with his rosy glow of colour vitality & free-flowing pattern undulation,
A calling to the direction of Art to be more inclusive, free and publicly accessible to wider audiences.."
