I am the sun by Vasundhara Deshmukh in Mumbai

I Am the Sun was created in my personal studio in London shortly after graduating from my Master’s in Project Management. During a pivotal moment of self-reflection and growth, I wanted to capture the emotional shift from self-doubt to self-empowerment through this painting. This piece is crafted with acrylic paints on a stretched canvas (size: 24x36 inches). I chose acrylics for their vibrant colour range and quick drying time, which allowed me to layer bright, bold hues symbolising light and strength. The texture was built up using palette knives and brushes to add depth and intensity, especially around the central sun figure representing inner radiance. I Am the Sun is part of my personal collection, a deeply personal work that reflects my own journey towards self-acceptance and creative freedom. It was never commissioned but has since resonated with many who have seen it, becoming a visual mantra for empowerment. After years of trying to fit into others’ molds and expectations, this painting marked a breakthrough, a conscious choice to embrace my own path. The imagery embodies that moment of clarity when you stop diminishing yourself to fit in and start shining in your own right. It’s a tribute to anyone who has struggled with self-worth and emerged stronger on the other side.
