Hands hold nature by Reem in Riyadh
Hands hold nature
The following is an oil painting. This painting captures the tired, mud-covered hands of an old man cradling a small sprouting plant. The dark, weathered hands, marked by age and hard work, contrast with the vibrant green of the new plant, symbolizing the cycle of life. The artwork suggests that aging is a natural part of existence, while the bright sprout represents renewal, hope, and the promise of new life. The act of holding the delicate plant in the worn hands emphasizes the care and nurturing needed for growth, reflecting the importance of preservation and the labour it requires.

Meet the Artist
Riyadh, Saudi ArabiaI am Reem Al-mausawe, a self-taught artist born in Yorkshire, UK, and now living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Creativity and design have always been in my blood, shaping not only my art but much of what I do in life. I've been painting since I was young, and I primarily work with oils and acrylics, which allow me to express my unique vision.
My work has been featured in restaurants and cafés, where I’ve painted murals that bring color and life to everyday spaces. I've also had the opportunity to sell my artwork online and at market stall events across the UK.
For me, art is more than just creating—it’s a way of speaking. I believe it has the power to change the world, making quiet yet impactful statements. Through my art, I aim to inspire and evoke emotions, sharing a piece of myself with those who experience it.
