Fears - A self portrait by Gledisa in Toronto

This portrait was an exploration into my own fears. I had come back from a trip to Hawaii where I fell in love with the land. At the time, on an emotional level i was really dealing with overcoming a lot of fears that i had within myself. Ever since I was a child, I have been terrified of caterpillars, worms and anything that crawls and i can step on. So when I am feeling fearful I legitimately feel as if the inside of my body is crawling with things that could decompose my body, like maggots. The reason I chose the caterpillar is that it transforms, and that summer I was transforming all of my fears by diving deep into them. By doing all the things that scared me. I transformed them from creepy crawlies to beautiful butterflies. And so here it is!
