Espresso lane cafe by SALVO in Heidelberg
Espresso lane cafe
commission mural for a cafe. This wall was subject to regular racist and hate speech graffiti, the cafe owners wanted a colourful mural with a phoenix as a symbol for hope.
Meet the Artist
Heidelberg, Australiahey, my name is Matthew and i am a practicing visual artist. My artwork is multi-disciplinary, predominately in painting and mix media however, in recent times iv been exploring back into a more sculptural field. Over the years iv been creating street art based work using painting and mixed media/paste up art showcasing positive messages to the public eye. I find myself returning to my roots of abstraction often and enjoy blending figurative and abstract elements within my artwork which has currently translated into my new found love of creating sculpture again.
Over the last 15 years iv had solo exhibitions, been involved in many group shows and painted murals in Melbourne and other parts of the world such as Italy and Mexico.
I have a Masters of fine art Degree, completed in 2011 at RMIT. iv Worked in art event management projects, Practiced as an art teacher/facilitator, delivering fine art skills and community arts based programs such as life drawing, Drawing & mixed media, collage and sculpture workshops/classes. I am currently leaning back into abstract artwork within my personal practice which is a great celebration for myself after years of dedicating time to street art.
