Egg Drop by Eleonor Andersson in New York

Egg Drop

Egg Drop is a 16x50-inch oil painting executed through a combination of finger painting and brushwork. Drawing inspiration from classic surrealist symbolism, the piece employs eggs and eyes to visualize the subconscious, referencing Dalí and Magritte. The egg, symbolizing the body and the inevitability of change, is depicted vertically in four stages of transformation. An eye with a yolk-like iris is superimposed on the egg. As the egg falls, the eye opens, and the fragile shell begins to crack, revealing the subject's inner world. When the egg reaches the ground, its shell and eye are fully open, and its contents are spilled. This painting examines the relationship between body and mind, highlighting the transformative power of sentience and the vulnerabilities of the psyche.
