Effervescence by I Julia Vaughan in Vancouver
Effervescence
An original mixed-media abstract artwork, from the currently available collection of Art By Julia Vaughan with UV-reactive elements. Inspired by connection, expansion, and unseen energy sparking change.
Handcrafted abstract artwork with layered textures and metallic accents.
* UV-reactive pigments reveal hidden elements of colour and intricate detail under blacklight.
* Mixed-media composition featuring acrylics, epoxy resin and iridescent embellishments.
* Textures inspired by celestial nebulae, exploding forms of energy and cosmic universes in motion.
* One-of-a-kind original artwork, ready to hang.
This 12” x 12” art piece, titled ‘Effervescence’, is the essence of a luminous stellar explosion, capturing the shattered remnants of a supernova. Meant to represent the aftermath of an intergalactic blast, as it forges and scatters elements across space - building new life, planets and stars. The outer layers expanding outward from the centre, as a bright, and colourful nebula.
Created with layered acrylics, resin, iridescent embellishments, and UV-reactive elements, the composition radiates outward from a central point, encouraging the viewer to explore countless interconnected pathways. Bursting with energy and movement, this piece symbolizes the stimuli behind driving forces for change. It’s pops of colour and metallic mixed media, shine through fluorescent accents that come to life in UV light, with specks of silver foil flakes that shimmer as brilliantly as the stars at night.
In regular lighting, rich textures and shadowed depths harbour subtle detail and intricacies waiting to be discovered throughout the day.
Under UV lighting, the artwork transforms dramatically, revealing luminous colours and hidden dimensions while maintaining rich texture and depth.
Each viewing, whether in natural light or in UV light, invites new discoveries, making this one-of-a-kind piece both visually dynamic and deeply contemplative.

Artist’s Reflections
Some moments in life seem small while we’re living them, only revealing their significance much later.
This painting reflects those moments.
Beginning from a single centre, countless pathways expand outward, intersecting, separating, and reconnecting like memories, experiences, relationships, or possibilities unfolding over time.
As the composition grew, I found myself contemplating the subtle intricacies of life, or more specifically - of significant life changing moments and how everything seems to be intricately connected - all tied together, beneath the surface - all leading back to one point in time and space - the moment that sets it all in motion. The impetus beginning to an end that begins again and again.
Every moment is a spark waiting to be lit, every spark a catalyst that pushes us forward.
Life is interconnected by design. What first appears as chaotic noise, slowly reveals its own quiet order in time.
To me, this piece serves as a reminder that even when we cannot see the entire picture, every experience leaves its own ripple, each ripple subtly connecting together and changing the course of direction by design.

Meet the Artist
Vancouver, CanadaI am a Vancouver, BC- based, artist who works with acrylics and mixed media on canvas. I've been painting/creating abstracts since 2019, I have been the owner/self proprietor of my own art business, Art By Julia Vaughan—since 2021 and have enjoyed working in many creative fields from an early age.
I come from a family of artists, but never thought of painting professionally, my mom was an artist who worked with acrylics on canvas.
It was not until after she was gone, that I first decided to paint—as a way for me to cope with the grief of her passing.
In 2020, I realized how much I loved combining geological inspiration with expressive abstraction, ultimately shaping the artistic style that continues to define my work today.
My work explores the harmony that can thrive within chaos, revealing hidden layers of beauty through light, texture, and transformation.
I use the space where colour, light, and darkness collide, to reveal high contrast complementary mediums of texture and colour, creating a dynamic, eye catching visual harmony within my work.
It becomes an exploration of transformation, not only in contrast and colour, but in perspective and understanding.
The cosmos reminds us how much remains undiscovered in our universe and beyond..
I take inspiration from the cosmos and geological beauty to explore the idea that ‘there is always more than what first meets the eye.’
My use of UV light reactive elements is not JUST because it looks cool (but hell ya, it looks cool in blacklight).
I also use the dramatic change from daylight to UV light to symbolize the journey and discovery of transformation.
Space and geology become the visual language, exploring subjects deeply connected with human nature, emotion and the idea of discovering what exists beyond our first perception.
Under UV light, my paintings reveal glowing galaxies and hidden cosmic worlds. Each piece becomes a universe of transformation—celebrating memory, connection, and the unseen paths that shape who we are.
Inspired by the idea that transformation is always happening—even when we can’t see it. Through layered textures, luminous pigments, and light-reactive elements, my work reveals hidden details over time, as a reminder that beauty often exists beneath the surface, while growth starts long before it rises to the surface. My hope is that my artwork invites you to slow down, look closer, and discover something new with each encounter.
The themes that consistently emerge throughout my work are:
* Abstract explorations of nature, the cosmos, and unseen worlds.
* Layers that invite prolonged observation, revealing new details over time.
* Heavy texture and resin creating a sculptural, almost geological surface.
* My personal journey—painting as a way to stay connected to my mother’s artistic legacy when she passed away. To transform emotion into something beautiful. Dynamic compositions expressing love, healing, and the profound beauty that can emerge from loss.
* Creating artwork that encourages curiosity, wonder, and imagination.
* More than just a painting, art that has an active duality, through UV-reactive elements that transform the artwork into an entirely different universe. An interactive experience of ‘flipping the switch to UV light’.
