DIGS005 PORTER | LETS DO IT - Murals by Katie Brightside in West Hollywood
DIGS005 PORTER | LETS DO IT - Murals
I think I must have been watching back to back romantic comedies to create this artwork. Actually, I’d finished Genius, Season 2 Picasso, I love that era with Gertrude Stein, the opulence, Art Deco, the Surrealists. Another rom-com favorite dabbling in the same historical era is, Woody Allen’s, Midnight in Paris. For the collection, I wanted to create something romantic, lavish, and magical. Like all the other artworks in The Digs Collection, this one is inspired by Cole Porter’s song Let’s Do It, which makes falling in love sound so easy. So I thought I’d give it a go, interpreting the feeling of falling in love, into an artwork!
I gathered all my illustrations of flying birds and bees to create this feast of nature, surrounding life with blooming florals. The collection features my traditional Black + White palette but mostly this artwork was conceived with glitz gold in mind. The Digs Collection, a true Magpie with an addiction to metallic wallpaper, appropriates the 1920’s pizzazz in this creation. Enjoy and Let’s Do It!
“It is not time or opportunity that is to determine intimacy; - it is disposition alone. Seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquainted with each other, and seven days are more than enough for others.” Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility

In 2002 she relocated to Sydney, Australia. In 2012, the aMBUSH Gallery hosted her first of many solo art exhibitions. This successful exhibition inspired a thirst for further education, a MA Fine Art from Central Saint Martin (CSM), London. After graduation Brightside sought advice from a White Witch, asking where she would live happily-ever-after. A week later Katie fulfilled that prophecy by moving to West Hollywood.
