Death in the woods

This illustration is inspired by a scene that occurs early on in "A Song of Ice and Fire" Novel series. I'm a huge fan of the books and wanted to illustrate this pivotal moment where the rangers of the Night's watch encounter the "Others", a terrifying species that is powerful and otherworldly. I wanted to convey the terror and otherworldliness of the creature and the bone-chilling cold snow-covered woods. This is a digital illustration done in the style of oil painting which gives it a loose painterly look.
