budyaan (birds in Wiradjuri) by Merindah Funnell in Sydney

budyaan (birds in Wiradjuri)

Medium: Aerosol on corrugated iron. Whilst on the property I spotted a few of theses birds and plants. A couple I did not but I knew were frm this area. Some of these plants and animals are boisterous and want to be seen, especially in this area, such as the willy wagtail and squiggly gum. Some are more evasive or hidden, such as the purple hyacinth orchid and flame robin. It is kinda like wine; some wines are very intense and flavourful where some are subdued. Whenever I paint a mural I like a part of it to be interactive, to have viewers move and think. You quite literally have to follow these birds up to the vineyard and question what they are - as they are not in the usual colours you see. I am Wiradjuri and being on Country feels extra special. I came here on my 30th last year and fell in love with ChaLou wines. So happy to be collaborating with their natural environment here. Both Nadja and Steve are incredibly supportive of art and Country.
