Botticelli Venus & Dante Alighieri by Rossella rz in Brisbane

Botticelli Venus & Dante Alighieri

I created this mural for an Italian takeaway in Broome, Western Australia. The owners are Italian and wanted something that reminded them of their homeland. After extensive research, I stumbled upon Italian food posters from the 70s and 80s, which had a surrealist, futuristic, and pop art-inspired look. I decided to recreate that colorful and playful pop style from those food posters. On the left side, you'll see Botticelli's famous Venus chowing down on a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. On the right, there's Dante Alighieri (the medieval writer of the Divine Comedy 1265-1321) cruising on a Vespa scooter. It's a fun and quirky blend of classic Italian art and modern pop culture, 2024
