Book illustrations for a study in Scarlet
I was thrilled to be commissioned by Stephen Hipkiss from Hipkiss Publishing in Australia to create illustrations for the upcoming reprint of Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet." This was more than just a project; it was a chance to bring a piece of literary history back to life, to dance with the shadows of the 1880s, a time of frock coats, gaslit streets, and the thrilling scent of mystery hanging in the air.
Meet the Artist
Melbourne, AustraliaI'm Matthew, an Australian freelance illustrator and graphic artist with 20+ years of experience. My versatile style adapts to various visual identities, spanning publishing, food and beverages, fashion, the arts, and manufacturing. Beyond commercial projects, I specialise in linocut printmaking. To unwind, I enjoy walks in nature, visiting galleries, exploring cities, indulging in podcasts, and playing the bass guitar.
