Bloom after Hiroshima by Van Jimmer in London

Bloom after Hiroshima

This was based on a dream I had: My knees felt the earth where my house once stood, rubble and razed to the ground. Burnt land all around. This is the nature of life, I told my loved one. Nothing remains except I'd love him forever, knowing too he would soon die. The pain was too much to breathe, suspended, heavy, a deep sad calm settled. A calm I kept very close. One morning those memories walked me to the edge of a cliff. I closed my eyes to take the breath I never could, spread my arms trembling, ready to fall. But a voice without words stilled in my chest quite quietly, and gently without fully knowing why, I raised my head, to continue. I used Japanese Oleander flowers, which were the first flowers to bloom after Hiroshima. Beautiful things can grow even after great tragedy. The wing of spirit curves round on the right to ease the destruction of her suffering.
