The curse of the Bambino began in 1918 when the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. The Red Sox had won 5 of the first 15 World Series and then experienced an 86 year drought before David Ortiz "Big Papi" with his team on his back, snapped it in 2004.
