Barrio Grandparents by artbycarlyyyy in Phoenix
Barrio Grandparents
This is a mural of the grandparents who have been involved with Barrio Nuevo over the years. The Barrio grandparents are the glue to Barrio as we all learn from them, their life stories , and what phoenix was like back in the day.
Meet the Artist
Phoenix, United StatesI am an artist from South Phoenix, Arizona, born and raised. I am currently studying Behavioral Health Science with an emphasis in Juvenile Justice. My ultimate dream is to combine that and my love for being an artist to teach art or give art therapy to children in juvenile prison. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember and my love for art is a great outlet for me. The freedom to express myself through art such as paintings, drawings, writing, and poetry saved my life and kept me out of a lot of trouble. I would like to show other people out there how creative expression through art is the best medicine. I have done a mural for an at risk youth group I work with called Barrio Nuevo Phoenix, helped them paint over 30 houses, as well as lead activities surrounding arts and crafts at least once a week. during my free time I let my artist brain run wild! There are days I want to pick up the camera, spray paint, water color paint, use raw charcoal, or hop on the pottery wheel. Often I end up with a mixed media piece when I told myself originally to stick to one medium.
I can do realism but surrealism and monochromatic pieces are my most favorite. I also enjoy cartooning, and creating abstract creatures. When you all check out my instagram account you will get a better understanding of what I mean.
