Barbie by Studio Boki in Flackwell Heath

Barbie

This piece is the first piece is the first in my Prominent Women series, featuring women of note who have had a profound impact on culture or history. Here is a portrait of Margot Robbie as Barbie, the that changed everything, for both girls and women alike. I loved the inspiration young girls got to pursue life outside the conventions of being a homemaker, which at the time of her launch was boundary pushing. The dialogue following The Barbie Movie, I felt was long overdue and brought about much needed discourse and critique on societal expectations of women, and the framework that these exist within. These thoughts and the buzz surrounding the movie were my inspiration. The entire piece is filled with pattern and a bold use of colour, which form the foundations of my stylistic handwriting. Mixed media: Pencil, digital, metallic ink hand finish.
