AURORA
Inspired by my favourite fairy-tale Sleeping Beauty. Princess Aurora is awaking with the sunrise after sleeping for 100 years . Her castle is covered in brambles and roses and her bed is layered with several quilts , this is also plays homage to the story of the Princess and the Pea with her many layers of mattress .
I started by using a UNI PIN fine line 0.05 mm and added watercolour paint .
This piece was created 3 Years ago for a Instagram challenge called Folktale week the prompt word was "Awaken" .
Meet the Artist
England, United KingdomI am a Brighton based illustrator who draws everyday , it brings me so much joy! When I was little my Mum would read me fairy tales from her childhood collection like Brothers Grimm and the Andrew Lang's Fairy books. I also had so many beautiful picture books and still read them to this day. I would brush my hands over the pages wanting to touch and feel the pictures - fully immersed in the story through the artwork . My passion and inspiration to illustrate children's books comes from that nostalgia. I want people to feel the same way when they see my artwork. You can learn so much about a story through the pictures.
I specialise in fine line illustrations, I love using colouring pencils and watercolour paints. My work is bright, playful and whimsical. When I'm in my flow, I'm drawing anything nature related - fictional characters, bugs and bees, food !! things you would find in the kitchen and around the house, plants, mushrooms, birds and garden scenes - you name it!
I have worked on wedding illustrations which includes save the dates, official invite name card and table names as well as a bespoke hand painted mirror which welcomed the guests. I also loved working with a local florist doing illustrations of their studio in the each season. I also illustrated a step by step guide of how to assemble a dried flower wreath. Every year I decorate shop fronts with Christmas illustrations using paint pens. Last years theme was the twelve days of Christmas!
