As an artist, my creative pursuits are focused on nuances that are often overlooked in our daily lives. My process of creation always begins with a spark of emotion that is ignited by anything I see – be it people, objects, or environments. I immediately surrender myself to a deep state of introspection to fully internalize that emotion and the aspects of the scene that triggered it. I then visualize the composition in my mind and set about translating it on the medium that instinctively feels best suited.
Whether still life, portraiture, or landscape, I always strive to uncover the deep inherent beauty surrounding us – beauty that can be felt, not seen. Drawings and paintings that border between contemporary approaches to realism and the delicacy of a soft gestural painterly hand through the manipulations of my mediums is my approach. Within my monochromatic works, I try to embrace the dynamic interplay of light and shadow through my use of graphite and my explorations into the realm of charcoal. Conversely, my body of work also prominently features oil paintings that integrate vibrant colors to expose the vivacity of life. It is an artistic practice that embraces evolution. I am continually learning, experimenting, and challenging the use of these mediums so that I may best capture the essence of my subjects in innovative and creative ways.
As people encounter my art, I want them to embark on a journey of discovery and to evoke the emotions that stimulated me. While fostering a deeper appreciation for life and the beauty within, I wish for those who encounter my work to be mesmerized by these glimpses of the everyday that we can easily glance over, leaving them inspired.
