Ahab´s Dream by Felix Zilinskas in Barcelona

Ahab´s Dream

Moby Dick is a work of deep symbolism. It is usually considered that it shares characteristics of allegory and epic. It includes references to topics as diverse as biology, idealism, hierarchy, obsession, politics, pragmatism, racism, religion, and revenge. The crew of the Pequod has origins as varied as Chile, Colombia, China, Denmark, Spain, France, Holland, India, England, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Tahiti, suggesting that the Pequod is a representation of the humanity. In this piece, we present Ahab, the captain of the Pequod ship, becoming one with his surroundings. He is part of the sea, part of the sky, and part of the white demon "Moby Dick" who earlier ripped off his leg. Moby Dick represents, on the one hand, the tireless search to achieve those dreams of a life that are in the abyss of meaning, something that has absorbed part of your own life and at the same time being the engine that drives you and gives sense to your life. It is something very close to what any artist faces in the process of their growth. Ahab's dream is an original 72 cm wide x 92 cm high acrylic on canvas made by Felix Zilinskas in his studio in Barcelona, ??Spain, between December 2020 and January 2021.
