Africa by Luisa Roncancio in Calgary

My name is Luisa, I was born in Colombia but my parents decided to move to Canada when very little due to a better future for my sister and I. I am 23 years old and ever since I can remember I have always been drawn into art. Although I’ve never studied art, it has always been natural to me to grab a paint brush and escape from reality. One of my favourite artists is Vincent Van Gogh, apart from admiring his beautiful work I also admire his journey. I too battle with self-doubt and an inner criticism, I too search for peace and serenity from my own mental and emotional turmoil, I too have questioned my existence and place in society. Nevertheless I too have found the courage, commitment, and consistency to amplify my own voice and be myself in a world that is trying to make me something else. I see beauty in darkness, I believe I was created to create.
