Bio:
Tyler Danielle Potter is an artist, designer and creativity facilitator from Norfolk (UK), born in 1998.
After graduating with a first-class BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts' Canterbury campus in 2020, she was selected for CRATE Studio and Project Space’s 2020 Graduate Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements. During her time at UCA, Potter completed a month-long placement at Cyprus College of Art and also held her first solo show, ‘Soft and Found’, at The Brewery Tap Project Space in Folkestone.
The artist then spent 3 years living and travelling in Europe on a 28ft sailboat with a very small budget. The challenging experience of residing on the ocean strengthened her connection to nature, one of her main sources of inspiration, and also expanded her knowledge and understanding of other cultures and languages. While travelling, she worked with various charities and mentors to learn more about creative enterprise and what it means to be a self-employed artist. This was when she first started selling her work and taking commissions.
In August 2024, Potter completed her MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art in London. A highlight from her time at the RCA was having her work shown at a TATE Lates event in April 2024. She also organised and curated a group show displaying the work of 16 different artists, herself included, as part of her MA research.
While studying for her MA degree, the artist worked part-time as an assistant art teacher for art-K: a company that hosts art classes, workshops and birthday parties, primarily for children. Tyler has also worked as a facilitator for KidsArt! and Arty Party. Post-graduation, Potter went on to develop her teaching skills further through her role as an art and design teacher/studio manager with IDEA Design Hub, a company providing accessible art and design education while investing surplus into meaningful community projects.
Tyler is now searching for opportunities such as grants and residencies to help expand her fine art practice, while taking on commissions and continuing to teach part-time.
Artist Statement:
My art practice primarily involves the exploration of repetition, process, play, impermanence and control in relation to positivity, curiosity, acceptance and healing. I find the connectivity concerning order and chaos very intriguing, as well as the relationship present between the mind and body. An obsession with the cyclical nature of circles, holes, loops, spirals and grids provides me with endless inspiration.
Experimenting with mixed-media successfully enables me to enter a meditative state and simultaneously to investigate that outlined previously; The resulting work displays an exploration of the benefits which surrendering to the present can provide, whilst forming a collection of peaceful moments to be shared with and experienced by an audience.
