“I used to be a person who enjoyed virtual interactions, I used to feel more comfortable and the lifestyle I led demanded it of me; At an early age I began traveling to paint and moving, which has kept me constantly on the move, separated from my family and friends. But at this moment, and even more so after the confinement we have experienced, I have discovered the need and satisfaction of personal interaction and how much it enriches my physical and mental health; giving more importance to what it means to ‘look into your eyes.'”
Currently residing in Barcelona, Zurik, began painting on the street as a self-taught artist in her native Bogotá, Colombia in 2009 while studying Graphic Design. From the beginning her work focused on the construction of pieces with an organic and geometric style without losing sight of the structure of the letters, which is in principle the strongest characteristic within Graffiti Writing and one of her greatest interests.
Her work has taken her to several countries, starting in Ecuador, Mexico, the United States, Australia, among others and finally establishing a permanent residence in Europe where she has found a solid base to continue evolving over the years, adding figurative elements and exploring other formats.
Despite continuing to be very constant in the mural, either as a means of work or as a source of personal exploration, in recent years she has been increasingly constant in his studio work, where far from staying in traditional media she explores the dimensions through wood and the possibilities it offers.
For her, each project is unique and offers different challenges, which keeps her motivated and in a constant search for solutions and challenges.
About the Style
Zurik defines her style as a mix close to Wildstyle (graffiti style) building from geometry and playing with the idea of full/empty space where there are no fixed rules and where it is totally valid to “paint outside the line.” From the beginning she turned her back on traditional letters or established rules, which led her to create a totally personal and authentic style that is easily recognizable and in which the abstract and the legible intermingle, resulting in a visual piece. that works in both worlds, both in that of graffiti and in that of people outside of it.
Part of her success derives from this mixture that has been totally unintentional, since for her the most important thing has always been to paint how she likes and build her own rules, changing them if necessary to continue growing through a very personal exploration, reaching to know herself through it.
