Undertow
This piece began as a generic, Ikea-bought Zebra painting that was hanging in the living room of the apartment I rent. My roommates and i were talking about possible redecoration ideas, and i thought about just using that as a blank canvas.
I first poured a clear layer of resin over the canvas and then dollops of blue, teal, turquoise, and verdigris green coloured resin around and using a heat gun mixed them together by blowing the hot air at certain angles. Once that set, I used a blue-themed pouring medium to get stalacmite/stalactite/like (try saying that 5 times fast) structures. I dismantled an old globe i had lying around and attached it with resin before using the pouring medium to cover it and make it a 3-D extension of the piece.
This was actually one of the first pieces I worked on to incorporate light. Before the pandemic, I fell in love with this show on netflix called Abstract: The Art of Design. In it, they have an episode centered around stage-designed Es Devlin, during which she gives a monologue about how her inspiration comes to her when looking at a blank canvas, then creating a tear down the middle to let the light shine through, and then building off that. That resonated with me so well, and so to further establish a feeling of being immersed in the piece and working in tandem with the mixed media 3-D effect, I incorporated a flexible light strip to draw the eye into the wave-like blue curve.

Meet the Artist
Toronto, CanadaI'm a Toronto-based artist with a love for creating abstract, mixed media pieces based on inspiration I find from living in the city. I've always loved how people can express their creativity through different outlets, and have always loved being creative myself, however it wasn't until a year ago that I began seriously working on art and found a deep passion for it. I am excited to become more involved in the Toronto art scene, and help bring other peoples' visions to life, just as I love to do with my own.
