Painted as part of the Regeneration Bushfire Recovery Project, this piece was designed to celebrate the community of Beechmont. Nestled on top of the mountains in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Beechmont is a close-knit community with locals as bright and colourful as the local fauna and flora. After a tragic bushfire destroyed much of the mountain, the community pulled closely together to support one another and rebuild. This mural is filled with elements of the local community, as a celebration of the mate-ship that shines through in a tragedy such as bushfire.
I believe that mullets aren't just a haircut, they're a way of life.
Much like my own mullet, I am business in the front, and party in the back. I believe in being professional and well-organised in my business dealings and then cutting loose and creating pieces that are colourful, eye-catching and filled with meaning.
I believe that all art should be able to be philosophically deconstructed and meaning debated, or just taken at face value and appreciated for looking nice (whichever one floats your boat).
I love big brushes, aerosol and pushing my colour choice as far as I can so they bend, but never break.
And of course, with all great mullets, comes a love of Australian imagery, iconography and beauty.
I love working with clients to take the message that they want to communicate and telling their story in ways they'd never thought of.
I have painted murals in Brisbane Street Art Festival and Yonder Festival. At each of these events, I was also fortunate enough to be asked to run street-art tours and share my passion for the artform.
I was recently selected as a finalist in Brisbane Portrait Prize, where I narrowly missed first prize (by 11 out of 9'000+ votes), in the Courier Mail People's Choice Awards.
I also have a Masters of Education from Queensland University of Technology and a current Blue Card for working with children, as well as an ability to talk under wet cement (untested).
As a result, I have experience teaching art master-classes from Grade 1 through to 12 at some of Brisbane's most prestigious schools.
Furthermore, I have worked with adults teaching both technical art classes and fun-focused sip n' paints.
So any age, any occasion, I'm happy to bring the energy and teach.
