A phrase on the verge of cliche, yet the profundity remains. ‘Soft is the judgement of a glistening sunrise’ points to our effortless admiration we have for the beauty of nature and all that captivates us externally. Yet ‘sharp is the blade that sabotages inside’ reminds us of the difficulty we have of seeing that same beauty within. Beholder allows for both perceptions to coexist in a 50x70cm mirror finished with a mesmerising white tiger; the perfect balance of beauty & danger. Yet the mirror is subjective. The pandemic has forced us all to look within. To stare into that mirror with a myriad of our complex prejudices, curious eyes and sometimes unforgiving judgement. We all learnt things about ourselves. We had to. For nothing changes until we change. I hope we come out of this bloody battle like a gracious white tiger. Not letting this adversity take us down, but to help us grow. So when whatever appears out of this wild jungle we call life, we can stare at in the eyes, acknowledge the challenge, and prowl towards it in relentless fashion knowing a better world lies ahead.
