Mid-November 2020, Engine Property Group connected with Melbourne-based start-up, Book An Artist, to create a Christmas gift to share with the public – a fresh Brunswick Street mural. Australia’s creative industry had taken a blow during lockdown resulting in lost jobs and unforeseen circumstances. After such a challenging year full of uncertainty, the Engine team wanted to bring a little colour back to Melbourne while simultaneously supporting small businesses and the local art scene.

Through the Book An Artist platform, Engine selected on of Melbourne’s local graffiti artists Damian Cazaly to paint a wall for the community to enjoy. His task was to create a colourful mural that inspired happiness and made onlookers stop and say “wow.”

The interactive Brunswick Street mural included Australian flora and fauna, hot air balloons, children playing and butterfly wings – a perfect spot for a quick Instagram shot! The general theme celebrates Melbourne’s hard work and freedoms from lockdown.

Since it’s competition, the mural has increased foot traffic in the area and created a safe and enjoyable environment for Melbournians. Head down to 276 Albert Street, Brunswick, for a family snap in front of the “Big Kookaburra.”
