The Sweet Pause by Netra Navik in Port Coquitlam

The Sweet Pause

In this colour pencil piece, “The Sweet Pause”, I tried to capture the lives and meaning of these objects on the canvas. Each item shown carries a personal meaning with it: the pitcher and martini glass represent my strong ancestors, lasting figures I look up to, who continue to guide me in life. The cherries and pear, sweet yet perishable, symbolize the present and the importance of cherishing time with family while we’re together. The wooden table, made from wood sourced in my parents’ hometown, roots the piece in memory and heritage that acts as a foundation in our lives, while the tablecloth draped over it reflects the cultural traditions that keep us connected. Through this classic dining scene, I hoped to show how objects can hold deep memories, and how taking a moment to notice them takes me back to my roots and people who make me the person I am today.
