This sculpture was formed around my research about dreams and the human brain. I was deeply inspired by my own dreams and how I seem to dream about the same things over and over again without knowing what any of it means. I found the quote "The mind studying the mind, is like looking in an endless mirror," so I decided to create my brain and "study" it, and store it.
The brain is sculpted out of clay, gesso, and sealer. I painted the details in gouache paint and put it in dyed water to make the pickled effect. I would consider this a mixed media, found materials sculpture.
My experimental process regarding the arts has led me to multidisciplinary work, including but not limited to sculpture, oil and acrylic painting, and live performances. I enjoy finding new media to work with as well as revisiting past infatuations and reinventing my style of the time. I am extremely interested in forming spaces where paintings and sculptures interact with each other in a multitude of ways, physically and thematically, and to incorporate my experience as a live painter into my
expression. I used to exclusively focus on acrylic painting and graphite drawing throughout my teenage years
, but have found a particular interest in multidisciplinary work and how to incorporate that into teaching. I have had the great experience of being a live painter at many different events and this has sparked an enthusiasm to pursue higher education and to eventually teach. This has become somewhat of the goal of my art, to explore teachings and art, and report back with my own
understandings.
