Culturedale 'Windows of Wonder' - live illustration for Healthy Minds
Live illustration doesn’t only exist in conferences and meeting rooms… it can spill out onto any surface.
Live illustration can occur beyond conferences, as demonstrated by our scribing project at Healthy Minds, a charity in West Yorkshire focused on mental health. The ‘Windows of Wonder’ project connected local artists to businesses, where artists would take over physical window spaces to enhance community engagement and promoting positive dialogue about Calderdale.
I had the absolute pleasure of illustrating the windows at Healthy Minds, a West Yorkshire based charity supporting mental health and positive community action in the local area. They have a forum, a place to come and chat with support if you need it, they’ve got an allotment and they do a whole lot more for the community. Healthy Minds provides vital support and community services for Calderdale, and my job was to provide a visual snapshot of the amazing work this charity does on the actual windows of the Healthy Minds head office in Halifax.
The Windows of Wonder project, supported and funded by CultureDale, introduced local artists to local businesses (and I grew up and now live in Calderdale), so it was fantastic for me to provide artwork for a place that puts so much back into the local community.

My name is Beka and I am a live illustrator based in England, UK and Stockholm, Sweden.
I capture conversations to help people spread their word in an engaging and accessible way, helping to create a useful snapshot and visual prompt for discussions, meetings, conferences, celebration events and more.
I’ve collaborated with lots of lovely people including staff at universities on a variety of socially-orientated research projects (including Newcastle, Manchester, Exeter, Sheffield and many more), two of the major UK banks, New Art Exchange (NAE), Cognitive Media, several regional councils and a number of local and national charities.
My wider artistic work can be described by the term ‘live illustration’ but in different ways, including (but not limited to) live illustration or graphic recording (also known as visual minutes or ‘scribing‘), 2D and 3D drawing and illustration, puppet and prop making, installations and live performance. My artwork combines drawing, interactivity and sometimes electronics and open source tech in surprising ways.
