Child teeth by Felicity Robinson in Singapore

Child teeth

to illustrate the metaphor of growing up through the symbolism of losing baby teeth to adult teeth. to start the process i began drawing the teeth by hand from observation. I used a normal pencil to do this while applying pressure to ensure the ink would transfer onto the back of the paper showing the teeth i have illustrated. i chose to use yellow paper for this to really emphasise that yellowness of the teeth giving it that creepy and unnerving feeling, as if you are looking at decaying teeth. Again i did this is illustrate that metaphor of loss of childhood, so making them as old and unhygienic as possible was an intention that i carried throughout. I then proceeded to engage in the process of embellishing on the teeth with a 0.5 black ink pen. i drew individual lines to show the curve of the teeth, i used a technique quite similar to the method of tattooing, to give a creepy undertone to the piece. i also used a white gel pen to show those highlights in the teeth. to further make the teeth look more unhygienic and decaying i used a yellow ochre coloured pencil, over areas of the teeth to make them more yellow and show a tonal deference to the yellow of the paper.
