Chen Man rides

I was commissioned by a bottleshop to do a piece for their front window. I had seen the selfie by Chen Man of herself riding an old bicycle in Tiananmen square. I approached her and to her credit she allowed me to do a painting based on that photo for use in this bottleshop. I made the painting of her pretty abstract and I found an old bicycle, make in Brisbane which was made the same year that I was, and I included that in the display. I put a cut off basket on the front of the handles so that products could be displayed, and I put a light on the front forks, down low like the old days, and made it into an led light so that the bulb wouldn't blow and ran the power from a plug into mains power so that it would always be glowing. For the background I used copper paint which has been activated with acid to produce a running dripping background of a beautiful verde colour.
