MattBlack is an experienced airbrush artist who specializes in painting automobiles and large murals. Gerald McLaughlin, who has been his mentor for decades, has assisted him in honing his abilities for three decades.
Matt, who was born in Montreal and raised in the flourishing hip-hop culture of Toronto, first gained recognition for his airbrushed clothing designs. As a high school art virtuoso, he rapidly expanded his repertoire to include graffiti, rhyming, and automotive painting.
MattBlack has a distinguished background in custom and OEM automotive painting, including a four-year tenure at Multimatic, during which he contributed to the Ford GT project. Recently, he has shifted his focus to large canvases, using automotive pigments that are predominantly water-based. His artwork is a vibrant homage to hip-hop and urban culture, featuring portraits and cityscapes with a distinct style.
According to his philosophy of exclusivity, MattBlack only constructs one-of-a-kind items. He considers art a collaboration between the artist's vision and the creative process. When you acquire a commissioned piece from Matt, you not only acquire a work of art but also an irreplaceable experience.
